The Eleventh Doctor, Amy and Rory are having the time of their lives, exploring the universe, seeing things that others have never seen before. Rose Tyler has made a discovery. The dimension cannon, a device she thought was now redundant, was working once more. In reality, the cracks in time that were appearing allowed her to cross through once more. She got Torchwood to update the device, so that they could make it more accurate. She and John Smith, the Meta Crisis Doctor, used the cannon and opened up a gate into the real Doctor's universe. Now, she and her version of Torchwood can transcend between the two universes. But is this damaging the universe? And what else can now travel between the two?

The Torchwood of the Doctor's universe is in tatters. Captain Jack Harkness has left, travelling around somewhere in space. Gwen Cooper is with her husband Rhys and her baby Anwen in Cardiff. Ianto Jones is dead. But this isn't the end for Torchwood. It will rise from the ashes, when the world needs it most.
