Strengths:
- Powers - one of Regan’s biggest strengths has to be her powers. She is very, very powerful; right up there with Professor X and Colossus. It is doubtful whether Lady Mastermind can go any further than she already has with her power, but that’s okay - she’s good enough as it is.
- Fearless - Regan is fearless. Nothing scares her apart from the possibility of being catatonic again. She does not fear death, doesn’t fear fire or anything like that. She used to fear failing her father, but no longer.
- Intelligence - Regan is very intelligent, a trait she inherited from Jason. She absorbs information quickly and is able to make tough decisions based on the best outcome.
- Firearms - Regan carries a pair of customised black Stainless Pro Raptor II handguns in holsters on her utility belt, and she knows how to use them. She is also a professional with other small munitions such as SMGs and can use Sniper Rifles with a degree of finesse.
Weaknesses:
- Arrogance - Regan is just that little bit arrogant. If she thinks that she has the advantage in a fight, then she’ll probably stop for a moment to gloat. Usually a bad idea, as most people will choose this time to strike.
- Ferocity - It is very easy to send Regan out of control. Anger her enough and she is gone. Sometimes, this can be bad as she can be manipulated easily by those who wish to use her anger against others.
- Lacks Morality – Regan has no regard for human life, either her own or others. While this may be an advantage in a combat situation (as she is unafraid of collateral damage), it also makes her less human.
- Jealousy – A weakness almost solely restricted to other women, Regan can be insanely jealous at times. She has an unfaltering need to be the best, no matter the circumstances, and cannot abide being beaten by those she feels are inferior to her – that is, most people.
Mutant Power (if applicable):
Telepathic Illusions:
Lady Mastermind’s powers are an improvement on her fathers, with her own twist. She is able to project extremely convincing illusions into the minds of those around her. They are so realistic that if she were to change the entire world, her victim would accept it as true with no argument. This makes it a very potent instrument in brainwashing people.
Regan's illusions are full-sensory, meaning that they affect all of the senses at once. Not just sight, but smell, taste, sound and even touch are included. This can go to the extent that someone may die in her illusions - take the example of crime boss Viceroy. Regan trapped him in an illusion to make him think he was drowning, and drown he did.
However, when officials examined the scene, added to his later autopsy, they were puzzled. He had been in an area with no water and enough oxygen to live, and nothing that he could have been smothered with. There was no sign of a struggle, but it was clear that he had suffocated.
She also once managed to kill a woman by stabbing her to death in an illusion, but that is quite a different story.
The only person ever shown to resist the illusions without aid was Emma Frost (although she did have a little telepathic guidance from Jean Grey).
Regan’s powers persist even if she has been rendered unconscious, meaning that she is the only person who can 'turn them off'. It is unknown if they would persist if she died, and this has, obviously, never been tested.
Mild Telepathy:
Regan has a measure of telepathy, although not as strong as many telepaths and is limited. It allows her to change her illusions so that they become more personal to her victims, as she can delve into their deepest memories and darkest secrets and use them against the unfortunate person.
It also lets her project and receive thoughts to and from other people, if she has established a psychic connection to them beforehand.
It does not allow her to take any control over a persons actions or to possess them as many stronger telepaths may.
Power Limits:
Regan’s illusions grow weaker if they encompass more people. It is far easier for her to cast an extremely convincing illusion on a single person than to do so for several. She is also weak to her own illusions; if they were to be turned back upon her – as they have been in the past – she is just as susceptible as her victims.
Her telepathy is nothing to write home about, and she has trouble with other telepaths who would be considered mediocre. While she has a decent shield around her mind and her thinking, it is something that could easily be destroyed by stronger telepaths.
Personality:
Regan Wyngarde, also known as Lady Mastermind, lives up to her reputation.
She is an aggressive woman, ferocious beyond compare, who get’s what she wants through her own means. That’s not to say she’s spoilt - her father barely gives a toss now that she’s older, despite their similarities. Regan has an insane, deep-rooted hatred for her half-sister Martinique in particular - and it’s mutual. Martinique hates Regan for being an ‘attention seeker’, whereas Regan’s vocalised thoughts of Martinique are that she’s a ‘skank’.
She is also a very volatile person, with a temper that can be set off at the drop of a pin. And you do not want to mess with Regan when she’s angry. She has the power to back up her fury, so unless you have a death wish, are an extremely powerful telepath (emphasis on the word extremely) or have a hell of a lot of back up, setting her off is not recommended.
In fact, there are very few good traits that Regan possesses. She doesn’t care about her own life really, particularly in a fight. She’s constantly going for the win, no matter what it might do to her. She is very intelligent and strategic, and she is confident in her own abilities. There are very few things that scare her, one of them being more powerful telepaths, or power negators, both of whom can turn her powers back on her or disable them.
Regan is sexy and she knows it. She uses her body to get what she wants from men, to manipulate them into doing her bidding, and she does it often. Whenever she needs some information, she gathers up a street tramp or a guy in a bar and makes his fantasies come true using her illusions. When she has the information she wants, she kills him. It’s a circle that is unlikely to end.
It’s been said that Regan is one of the most difficult mutants for the X-men and other enemies to deal with, purely because she doesn’t care. She doesn’t care about anybody else, and has some severe sociopathic tendencies. Her disregard for her own life means that she will often go into situations full throttle, prepared and willing to lose everything if it means she wins overall.
can't you see we are the same?
Eyes: Light Blue
Hair: Blonde
Physique:
Built lean and slender, Regan stands at five feet and six inches and weighs approximately one hundred and forty pounds, with curves in all the right places. She’s not afraid to flaunt what she’s got and wears clothing that accentuates her body. She is mostly muscle, with little fat - a body adapted to constant strain and combat. She has scars here and there; most notably the three parallel lines on her lower abdomen.
Her skin is softly tanned and she has a well proportioned face. Her posture is tall – she rarely slouches – and she moves in an almost feline manner, with a low hung gait that speaks of a predator rather than prey.

History:
Regan was born in London, England, twenty five years ago. She was the second daughter of the infamous mutant criminal Jason Wyngarde, who went by the alias of Mastermind, and had one sister – Martinique. Not much is known about Regan’s childhood to anybody besides those who were a part of it. She had a relatively easy upbringing, though her mother was absent after her birth. She didn’t mind this; her father was the centre of her world whilst she was growing up, and she battled fiercely with Martinique for his attention.
Martinique and Regan did not get along. As children, they fought for Jason’s love (which he encouraged somewhat), and as they turned into teenagers, they were more like rivals than half-sisters. They constantly stole each other’s boyfriends, spread rumours and destroyed friendships. They burned bridges as soon as they constructed them, with actions borne of jealousy and spite rather than any real hatred.
Her mutation surfaced early – though not as early as Martinique’s – and it was found that she, like her family, had inherited mastery of illusions. At the age of thirteen, she used the false images to lure boys and hurt her enemies – even then she cared for nobody except herself.
She left home at the age of eighteen after a particularly vicious spat with Martinique, travelling across the globe in the hopes of finding glory and renown.
She was soon picked up in Australia by a gentleman named Sebastian Shaw, who had worked briefly with her father in the past, and was intrigued by his offspring. He hired her to retrieve his secretary – a mutant named Sage – with a bonus for her if she helped him gain loyalty in Sydney’s criminal underworld. Regan took both jobs, deciding first to track down and capture Sage.
It should have been easy. Sage fell quickly into a trap, becoming incapacitated within a simple illusion and easy for the taking. Regan was just applauding herself for a job well done when another woman turned up – a woman who just happened to be a mutant known as Lifeguard. Lifeguard’s ability was situational adaptation, which essentially gave her whatever she needed for any given circumstance. Noticing Sage in trouble, she leapt to the rescue, and turned Regan’s illusions back on herself.
The result was catastrophic to Regan. The world she had woven overcame her telepathy, trapping her in her own mind and pushing her into a coma. She was left alone in a catatonic state for three years. The mutant Serafina managed to hijack her powers without her knowledge, but was defeated. A short time later, she was found by the X-Men Iceman and Cannonball, and was delivered to Xavier.
She awoke from her coma and was almost instantly placed on Rogue’s new team of X-Men, though there was no love lost between her and the power stealer. Rogue hated the newly named Lady Mastermind with a vengeance, taunting her at every opportunity, telling her that the only reason she was in an X-Man uniform was because they could find nothing else for her to wear. Ignoring the jibes, she proved an asset for the team, particularly during the events on Cable’s island, wherein Rogue was infected with the virus Strain 88 and absorbed eight billion souls.
Following this, the squad took a brief respite at one of Mystique’s safehouses so that Rogue could recover.
Shortly after they had arrived, the alarms went off in the building. Karima Shapandar – another member of the team with a cybernetic body – was attacked through a computer by an unknown enemy. When the squad scrambled to investigate, there was nothing to be found – until Iceman was hurt by something invisible.
In a grand betrayal, Regan dropped a cloak of illusion to reveal the team of Marauders she had been hiding ever since they had entered the safehouse. A short fight ensued, and Lady Mastermind escaped alongside her new comrades with Mystique and Sabretooth, who also shared the Marauders’ mindset.
She was next seen attempting to find the missing mutant baby alongside the Marauders, and fighting the X-Men when they attacked her team. In her time with them, she developed a strong friendship with Malice, whom she helped in their ambush against the X-men. They tossed a disguised Scrambler at Wolverine to disengage his healing factor. In the fight that ensued with Wolverine and Nightcrawler, Regan was stabbed in the abdomen by Wolverine, and was left to bleed to death.
Lady Mastermind was picked up by an unknown saviour and dropped of in the NYC General Hospital, where they managed to save her life, though she was in critical condition for a long, tense few weeks. She thanked her rescuers by escaping in the dark of the night, and by the time they started looking for her the next day, she was on the other side of the city. She did not lose her powers in the M-Day fiasco, and currently lives in and around New York, taking on various mercenary jobs to keep her from getting bored.
Her ultimate goal is to take down the X-Men, but she’s not stupid enough to do it alone. That’s okay. She’s patient.

Role-play Example:
Takes place in an AU where Lady M is a member of the Hellfire Club. Cam is her lover, who finds that she has been brainwashing a former friend of his – Orca – into believing that she is a prostitute. This post was the culmination of an argument between the two on that subject.
Whatever Lady Mastermind had been expecting, it wasn't the impact to her jaw which followed Cam's speaking. She reeled back a little bit, more out of shock than out of the force of his punch.
She touched a finger to the underside of her jaw, wincing a little at the feeling of a growing bruise. Her eyes darkened considerably as she tasted the irony tang of blood on her tongue.
She swiped a finger across her lip, and when she drew it away, there was a red liquid staining the skin.
Cam had hit her.
Cam had hit her so hard that she had bitten her lip.
It was unthinkable. She had never been hit by a lover. Her pupils were so dilated that there was only a thin line of blue where there had previously been irises.
"Your idea of love is pretty damn warped if that's how you show it." She said in a very low, very dangerous voice. The walls around them seemed to ripple as though they were not real. She was losing control. She raised her head and stared icily into Cam's eyes, the blood on her lip no longer an issue to her. She was powerful, more powerful than him, than Orca, than anybody in this Club.
No longer was she Regan Wyngarde, daughter of the esteemed mutant, Jason Wyngarde. She was Lady Mastermind, perfect assassin. Invincible.
"Let's take a look into your fears, shall we, Cam?" She spat, her voice suddenly blurring. There was an edge of something a little inhuman to it. He had crossed that line by hitting her.
She dove into his thoughts, her tendrils of telepathy no longer curious and barely there. They were spears of anger and hate, searching for something to drive her victim to destruction. She made the brief decision whether to torture him or not, and their surroundings blurred.
Almost instantly, they darkened, and became an alleyway. She could feel the gentle, cold breeze whispering through her hair, feel the gritty tarmac under her feet. They were standing on a roof, and below them was the narrow walled alley.
"You loved her, didn't you, Cam?" Regan snarled, gesturing below.
There, in the shadows of the walls, was a girl, cowering. Dark chestnut hair and an X-Man uniform were all that could really be seen of her, as she was hiding her face. At either end of the alleyway were three men, fast approaching her. The girl, who was clearly Kitty Pryde, clambered to her feet to escape, but as she ran at the wall, she rebounded off it. Her powers had gone.
There was a shine of a knife in the dark as one of the men broke into a run, shouting about 'mutie scum'. There was no way that Kitty could outrun him. She was utterly defenseless as the man fell on her, his weapon gleaming. The blood was so very real as he began to slice into her.
A great bellow of rage from the other end of the alleyway made Lady M look up from where she had been enjoying Kitty's demise. A giants shadow stood there. The ground shook as he raced towards Kitty and the man slashing at her. Colossus was soon into the fray, turning to metal so the knife bounced off him harmlessly.
Regan smirked, returning her face to Cam.
"He could be the hero you never were. Her hero. She chose him. What does that say about you, I wonder?"
